The Preparatory participated in an outreach event, led by Rebecca Henry, pedagogy faculty and director of the Pre-Conservatory Violin Program, and Claire Allen, (MM ’13, Violin), who is a faculty artist at the Mason Community Arts Academy at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., where Allen is developing a violin program. They organized a concert that included members of the Young People’s String Program and the Mason students playing together, a panel discussion on the value of group classes in string training, and performances by the Pre-Conservatory Violin Program. YPSP Assistant Director Lenelle Morse and Claire Allen led the younger groups, and PCVP students also contributed moving testimony about the value of their Peabody group and ensemble experiences. The night prior to the concert, PCVP took a field trip to the Kennedy Center to see the opera Candide, in which Conservatory faculty artist Denyce Graves, mezzo-soprano, was singing.
